Your Business Association – Eight Years of Business Improvement Activity
In 2010, a large group of area owners came together and requested that the City designate the Corridor as a “BIA”. At the time, a new City sign bylaw preventing off site directional signs was on many owners minds. The economic opportunity which would be afforded to existing businesses and vacant land by extension of municipal water was also important to many owners.
Fast forward eight years and area improvement successes have included aligning zoning with owner needs and opportunities (and a result of reducing the cost of development), preventing a roundabout at the Westbrook interchange and shoulder widening of Carp Road north of 417.
Issues being mentioned most by owners today include need for transit and difficulty finding new employees to support business growth. Municipal water remains top on many owners lists according to the results of a recent member poll.
A new Board of Management will be elected later this year: Area owners who participate on the Board of Management direct the activities of the association. The Board meets once each month – currently Thursday morning 7:30am – 8:30am.
